dc.description.abstract Background: Many studies were conducted worldwide in prevalence, severity and health consequences of vitamin A deficiency in preschool-aged children, but very few studies have been done to find out the extent of vitamin A deficiency among khalawies pupils. We aimed to study vitamin A deficiency among khalawies pupils and its consequences' on their nutritional status in Elfateh1 city, Karary locality. Methodology: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted among students in Elfateh 1 city khalawies, Karary locality. Two hundred and twenty pupils, age between six and nine years were selected from eleven khalawies. Community based questionnaire and eye examination was done to determine whether there was vitamin A deficiency or not and analyzed using SPSS program. Results: The total number studied were 220 pupils. 178(80.9%)had normal eye examinations and 42(19.1%) had vitamin A deficiency, among them18.2% were males and 0.9% were females. Among all pupils, 7.3% had night blindness, 4.1% had Bitots Spots, 5% had corneal xerosis, and 2.7% had night blindness with eye sign. Conclusion: Vitamin A deficiency was found in 19.1% of students. The Institutional caregivers should be made aware of the importance of providing a balanced diet rich in vitamin A. Also be aware of the signs and symptoms of vitamin A deficiency for early detection and early treatment. en_US

dc.description.arabic-abstract المقدمة: هنالك العديد من الدراسات و التوثيق للعواقب الصحية لنقص فيتامين أ للاطفال سن ما قبل المدرسة, فقد أجريت دراسات قليلة جدا لمعرفة مدى انتشار نقص فيتامين أ بين الطلاب الدارسين ف خلاوي القرآن. هدفنا دراسة نقص فيتامين أ بين الاطفال في الخلاوي القرآنية في مدينة الفتح 1, و دراسة العوامل المرتبطة بنقص فيتامين أ. منهجية البحث: هذه الدراسة وصفية أجريت في خلاوي مدينة الفتح 1 بمحلية كرري. مئتان و عشرون طالب أعمارهم بين ست الي تسعة سنوات تم اختيارهم من احد عشر خلوة. تم جمع البيانات باستخدام الاستبيان و فحص العيون. تم تحليل البيانات باستخدام برامج التحليل الاحصائي. النتائج: اثنان و اربعون (19.1%) نسبة انتشار نقص فيتامين أ. 18.2% فتيان. 0.9% فتيات. 7.3% عشى ليلي. 4.1% بقع بيتوت. 7.2% عشى ليلي مع ظهور علامات العين. 79.9% أصحاء. الخلاصة: خلصت الدراسة الي وجود نقص فيتامين أ. علي القائمين بأمر الخلاوي بضرورة معرفة و تقديم الرعاية و توفير نظام غذائي متوازن غني بفيتامين أ. وايضا ينبقي ان يكونو علي دراية كافية بعلامات و أعراض نقص فيتامين أ و ذلك للاكتشاف المبكر و العلاج المبكر en_US
