Abstract: This study aimed to reveal the level of contribution of the Sudanese newspapers to the acceleration of the development of the agricultural sector . This was assessed through the topics published in the newspapers to investigate the ways and methods of coverage. The study used the descriptive analytical method .through the content analysis style were seven categories were applied including agricultural development issues, the language, editorial formatting, objectives, attitudes, location in the pages and highlighting the effectiveness of the topics in the published material. The seven categories were divided into thirty analytical internal units. The study also used the interview method with some newspaper’s editors and agricultural experts to find out quantitative and qualitative newspapers coverage of the agricultural development issues. A sample of (150 daily issues of ) newspapers was selected to represent the study population which are 21 daily news papers) , by selecting five daily newspapers from the total including ( Alrai Alaam الراى العام , Awattin الوطن , Alsudani السودانى , Elintebaha الإنتباهة , Aljareda الجريدة ) between the years(2012 & 2013) for the study purpose. The descriptive analysis was used to present the results in frequency and percentages tables. The study also used the chi square to test some study variables, the results of which indicated that there was no significant relationship between the published topics and the five daily newspapers at the calculated value of ( 0.4). The reliability of study was also tested by using the Holsti test equation the result of which was (85%). The results of the study showed that the coverage of the nonagricultural topics were more than the agricultural,s sector topic, the Coverage of the plant sector is more than the other agriculture’s sector topic (%65.5), non-agricultural news items are more than other agricultural news with the percentage of (%56.7), and the agricultural subjects are confined to the internal newspaper pages at the rate of (91.7%). This trend indicated that the editorial polices interest were week in agricultural topics. The most important Difficulties which faced the journalist were lake of information, inadecuate training, and absence of clear agenda from the publishers towards agricultural sector issues which were indicated during the interviews. The study recommended the increase agricultural topics to nationalize and maximize the returns of it’s benefits. It’s also recommended to set schedule for the newspapers indicating the priorities of the agricultural topics and to create partnership between the press and the state to established partnership between the press and the state targeting the promotion of the agricultural sector and the dissemination of economic awareness. The study also recommended addressing the audience in their own language and to direct the publishers’ objectives to increase their awareness about economic issues in general and the agricultural issues in particular.
