Abstract: This research aims to investigate the social shyness and other variables, including gender, age, educational level, marital status and place of origin among epileptic patients in Tigani El-Mahi Psychiatric Hospital in Omdurman. The researcher adopts the descriptive method to achieve these objectives. Purposive sampling method is applied to select a sample of 224 epileptic patients: 131 males (58.5%) and 93 females (41.5%). The researcher uses the following scale to collect the data of the present research: Social shyness scale designed by Check and Mitchlair (1985) and translated to Arabic by Lowloa Hamada and Hassan Abullatif (1999), and demographic data sheet. Statistical Package for Social Science is used to analyze the data of this research by using Alpha- Cronbach, T- Test for one sample, Pearson Correlation Coefficient and ANOVA. The most important result of the study are as follows: social shyness was high among epileptic patients in Tigani El-Mahi Psychiatric Hospital in Omdurman at the level of significance (0.05), there are no statistically relevant differences according to gender , age, marital status and place of origin among epileptic patients is high (p=0.05). There are statistical differences in the social shyness according to educational level of the investigated epileptic patients (p=0.05) in favour of the educated. Finally, the researcher suggests some recommendations to increase community knowledge and awareness about epilepsy to overcome the associated social shyness, and designing counseling and therapeutic programs to help those patients to eliminate social shyness
