Abstract: This study aims to investigate general characteristics of self-esteem and its relation with ego strength among the diabetic adolescents at Jabir Abu Elizz Centre, Khartoum State. It also aims at investigating the differences on the three variables attributed to sex, age and years of illness, in addition to determining whether there is correlation between the three variables. To obtain these goals the researcher uses descriptive correlation method. A sample of 100 diabetic adolescents is selected from the centre’s population of 700 using simple random sampling technique. Methods of data collection include primary information about the sample, Cooper Smiths scale of self-esteem and questionnaire of ego strengths. The two questionnaires are standardized to test their reliability and validity on the study population. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) is used for data analysis. The tests used in the study include: t-test for one sample, t-test for two independent samples, ANOVA and Pearson coefficient. The study reached at a number of results, the important of which are that: self-esteem was high, where as ego strengths were low among the centre’s population. There were no statistically significant differences in self-esteem attributed to sex, age, and number of years of illness, while were statistically significant differences on ego strength attributed to sex and age never illness. There is no correlation between self-esteem and ego strength among the diabetic adolescents at the centre. Finally there was no statistically significant correlation between self esteem and ego strengths among the centre‘s population. Upon these results the researcher recommended some recommendations included designing of counselling programmers to improve and increase self esteem and determination on diabetics especially on adolescent patients, besides preparation of awareness programs for families with diabetes history. The study was concluded by suggestions for future studies on the topic
