Title: Nutritive Value of Some Fruits, Pods and Seeds of Browse Trees

Abstract: This experiment was carried out at Nutrition Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Production, University of Khartoum, during the period September to October (2016), to determine the nutritive value of three browse trees fruits (Hyphaene thebaica, Balanites aegyptiaca and Ziziphus spina-christi), three species of pods (Prosopis juliflora, Faidherbia albida and Subspecies Acacia nilotica) and two types of seeds (Balanites aegyptiaca and Ziziphus spina-christi). Chemical composition, some macro minerals and anti nutrition factors were evaluated. The experiment was designed using completely randomized design (CRD) and the data was analyzed using SPSS program software (ver.21). Z. spina-christi seeds showed the highest content of crude protein (49.17%), great value of ether extract (28.02%) and saponin (183.80 mg KOH/g), while the Z. spina-christi fruits had the highest content of the minerals Ca (0.68%) and P (0.35%). B. aegyptiaca seeds which reached to highest content of ether extract (44.45%), saponin (295.69 mg KOH/g), metabolizable energy for ruminant (19.82 Mj/kg DM) and for poultry (18.88Mj/kg DM). H. thebaica fruits gave the lowest value of crude protein (6.12%) while it had a high value of NDF (35.25%), ADF (26.32%) and greatest value of Mg (1.72%) and K (1.00%). F. albida pods had highest content of crude fiber (28.60%), ADF (36.60%), NDF (47.80%) and Mg (1.91%). P. juliflora pods showed great content of crude protein (20.03%), crude fiber (21.81%), NDF (32.00%) and greatest content of Na (0.10%). Subspecies A. nilotica pods showed the highest content of ADL (15.69%) and tannin (7.9%). It was concluded that the studied fruits, pods and seeds contain fair nutrients. Therefore, this study recommends these samples to be implemented in nutrition field.
