Title: Effect of Dietary Inclusion of Guar (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba )on Broiler Performance
Author: Mahmoud, Babekir Mohammed Hashim
Abstract: An experiment was conducted to study the effect of using additional untreated guar seeds in broilers diet as natural protein source on performance and some carcass charastaristics . guar seed were taken from the factory for guar gum at singa. Sinnar State Two hundred one day old commercial unsexed broiler chickens of Ross strain were used. The birds were randomly divided into four equal groups, of 50 birds with five replicates (10birds/replicate) in completely randomize design. The data was analyzed using analysis of variance of means according to SPSS program. Means were compared for one way Anova using Duncan´s multiple range test (D M R T). Four isocaloric and isonitrogenous diets A, B,C and D were formulated to meet the nutrient requirement for broiler chicks. Diet A contained a conventional feed ingredient as control, diet B contained 5%guar seed, diet C contained 7.5%guar seed and diet D contained 10%guar seed. Parameters measured were weekly feed intake, body weight and feed conversion ratio (FCR). At the end of experimental period (6 weeks), birds were randomly selected (2 birds/replicate), weighed and slaughtered. The carcass weight were obtained and dressing percentage were calculated. The results showed that inclusion of guar had effect on feed intake, weight gain feed conversion ratio. was significantly (P<0.05) higher in guar seed level 0 %, 5% and negative in the 7.5%,10%guar seed levels .The group fed 0% and 5 % guar seed showed significant (P<0.05) improvement in internal organs was measured Gizzard and Intestine were significantly (P<0.05). The group fed 0% and 5 % guar demonstrated significant (P<0.05) augmented in dressing percentage compared with the other groups. Overall performance of good dressing percentage were recorded at 5% guar seed level. Therefore untreated guar seeds can be used in broiler chicks diet without any adverse effect up to 5% , provided it is available at an economical price
