Abstract: This study was conducted during the period June 2014 to June 2016 at Amtar Agricultural Project, which is located at west Aldabbah town, Northern State, longitude 30o56E and latitude 18o3N. The study was conducted with the aim of evaluating the hydraulic performance of the Floppy Irrigation System. The system has been introduced recently from South Africa as a pioneering system for the production of forage crops mainly Rhodes grass (Chloris gayana) under the high terrace soil condition. It is irrigated from the Nubian Sand Stone Aquifer. The experimental site was laid out according to the American Society of Agricultural Engineers (ASAE) recommendation. The hydraulic parameters tested were Christiansen coefficient of uniformity (Cu %), the Distribution uniformity (Du %), the Application efficiency (Ea %), and Scheduling uniformity (Su). The values obtained for these parameters were respectively 53%, 46%, 73% and 0.022. According to the standard measures, these values are considered low. The low values of (Cu %), (Du %) and (Su) may be attributed to the system design, installation and management, while the low value of (Ea %) is attributed to the overall loss of irrigation water due to the high rates of evaporation and wind drifting. It can be concluded that the Floppy Irrigation System can have high potential under Sudan environmental conditions provided that proper design, installation and management are strictly adhered to.
