Title: Investigation of Atbara-Portsudan Transmission Line Voltage Profile

Abstract: The problem of voltage control and voltage stability of a transmission systems is one of the most important points that affect the whole electrical grid stability. Maintaining the voltage within the regulation limits for a transmission line may require hard practices at the operation process specially at those systems which were not well designed. This research problem of this study deals with the overvoltage when switching Atbara- Portsudan transmission line with no load ,and the under-voltage that appear at the receiving end at the 100 % loading condition of this line. Data was collected from NLDC covering the line parameters and the load values. ETAP software is used to simulate the problem and the suggested techniques to enhance the voltage in both no load and full loading conditions. The simulation results show that the series compensation for this line could enhance this line performance from 248.5kV in the no load case to 238.9kV which is less than the over-voltage relay setting (110%); in addition to 223.7kV instead of 195.4 kV in the case of 100% loading condition of the line. This result is considered a satisfactory solution to avoid any unwanted operations during line restoration. The study recommends to do a study to redesign the line considering the voltage level of the transmission line to 500 kV to eternally the unwanted line disturbances.
