dc.description.abstract Most of the world's population faces a shortage of potable water in general .The objectives of this study is to determine the operation cycletime in a reverse osmosis (RO) plant, and improve filtration processes by application of membrane operations of drinking water treatment and Desalination. The optimum operationtime in each cycle was determined for achieving minimum annual cost for energy with guaranteed maximum production of potable water. The research adopts aninterpretive methodology to analyze production and cost of RO data which was obtained from plant Desalination Red Sea state through the last six years. The experiment used the polyamide membrane. The optimization of cycle time was estimated on the basis of actual plant data using MAT LAB software, the totalproduction of desalination water over six year was 159870 m3. Iterations to estimate optimum cycle time to produce 2.6072e+04 m3per cycle, is found to be equal to 3.5 years. The results aretherefore successful. The research recommends commences further studies on the issue using nanotechnology to reduce costs and increase production. en_US
