Abstract: Carotid blowout syndrome (CBS) is one of the most dreaded complications of neck dissection. CBS was once shown to have a high morbidity and mortality rates in all of its three types; however, with recent advancement in the medical field these rates decreased considerably. Surgeons and medical practitioners must have a thorough knowledge about this serious condition and the different ways of managing it. This paper is an overview of the syndrome discussing all that has been published about its methods of diagnosis, known risk factors and its numerous management techniques
