Abstract: Jatropha curcas L ( Euphorbiaceae ) is an important energy plant which has received more attention in recent years for its utilization in biodiesel production, grows in marginal land and is not edible. The aim of this study is to improve the drought tolerance of jatropha by introducing the glycine betaine and JcNF-YB6 genes. GSMT and DMT genes were cloned from Synechococcus sp. and transferred into jatropha by Agrobacterium –mediated transformation. DNA was extracted from putative transgenic plants and confirmed by PCR. Transgenic plants were produced, but glycine betaine genes were not completely introduced, probably due to immature transfer of T-DNA or homologous recombination. JcNF-YB6 gene was from jatropha and Amplification of the JcNF-YB6 sequence by using the cDNA. Coding sequence of the JcNFYB6 gene, the jatropha AtNF-YB1 ortholog, is required to be confirmed
