Title: APPLICTION OF DIRECT DESIGN METHOD TO BEAM UNDER COMBINED LOADS (TORSION, BENDING AND SHEAR)

Abstract: This paper dealt with problem of torsion combined with bending and shear on reinforced concrete beam. The approach used here tries to integrate in a unified manner the area of a finite element method, direct design method and sandwich model approaches for the task of tackling the problem of torsion combined with bending and shear. In the first part of this paper the basic fundamental concept of application of the direct method through sandwich model as related to this work, are presented. In the second part the results of the study made on the beam loaded by pure bending and combined torsion are presented and compared the results obtained by the above mentioned methods with the results calculated by ACI - 95 and BS8110 - 97 codes to verify the validity of the direct design method.
