Title: FINITE ELEMENT AND DIRECT DESIGN METHOD IN COMBINED TORSION, BENDING AND SHEAR OF REINFORCED CONCRETE

Abstract: This research work is concerned with the problem of combined torsion, bending and shear. It consists of three linked parts. A sandwich approach is developed, in which all components of stress-resultants from different combinations of loadings on a reinforced concrete beam are lumped into four plates at its edges. This is to facilitate the application of the "direct design method" on beams subjected to combined bending, torsion and shear. The stress-resultants of these plates are computed by a three-dimensional finite element computer program based on a 20-noded isoparametric element developed in this study.
