Title: WIND TURBINE AND DIESEL GENERATOR, HYBRID CONTROL SYSTEM.

Abstract: Hybrid power systems based on new and renewable energy sources, especially wind energy, are an effective option to solve the power-supply problem for remote and isolated areas far from the grids Combining two or more generating technologies such as wind and diesel creates a hybrid power system. For remote locations, far from the public power grid, this is an interesting alternative for self-sufficient power supply. If the wind conditions are good wind Diesel hybrids can usually provide electricity at the lowest cost for such places. The scope of the project is to design a station of hybrid system (wind turbine/ diesel generator) for a location (Soba, Khartoum) that provides sufficient power for a predetermined load. The reason why diesel generation is used is that the generation from wind turbines is not constant, which leads to is inefficient generation during the load cycle, hence, the rest of the load shall be supplied by the diesel generator. In order to generate from wind turbine; wind speed must be known for the location of generation, hence, the output power of the turbine. In order to achieve this, load was estimated for every month in the year. Next, wind speed was monitored and tabulated for every month of the year, as well. Hence, calculations were carried out to evaluate the output power of the wind turbine. If there the wind generation wasn't sufficient, the diesel unit shall compensate and keep the load supplied. For the purpose of power factor correction, a capacitor was included in the design Design was carried out and also simulation for this design for a certain study case using ETAP software for power system analysis for the sake of verification. The results were as expected and were quite satisfactory.
