Title: OPTIONS FOR IMPROVING POWE R GENERATION ECONOMICS
Author: M. Hassan, Nazar
Abstract: Conventional fossil fuels generation tec hnologies must still supply the bulk of the projected increase in electricity demand in the Arab Region for years to come. Natural gas technologies in particular are becoming increasingly integrated as configurations of new and more efficient conversion technologies are emerging. The integrat ion of such systems is becoming a proven means of obtaining maximum potential efficiency gains from electric technologies. Furthermore, Combined Heat & Power (C HP) systems currently operating at significantly higher efficiencies could be extended and integrat ed directly with urban-planned district heati ng/cooling systems and into residential buildings for kitchen uses. This article revisits the c ontemporary issues that would affect the economics of power generati on, and recommends some of the options that the world might undertake to successfully in crease its generati on capacities to meet the new envir onmental mandates
