Title: Effect of Phosphorus Application and Rhizobium Inoculation on Two Cultivars of Alfalfa
Author: Abusuwar, Awad
Abstract: The effects of phosphorus application and rhizobium inoculation on plant density, seed yield components and seed yield of two alfalfa cultivars (local cultivar Hegazi and introduced cultivar Pioneer 5929) were studied at the Demonstration Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Khartoum, during the period November 1991 - July 1993. Phosphorus application increased plant density and the increase was significant towards the end of the growing season, whereas rhizobium inoculation seemed to have a negative effect on plant density. Both treatments led to increase in seed yield components and final seed yield in the two cultivars. The local cultivar Hegazi was superior to the introduced cultivar Pioneer in the final seed yield. On the other hand, the introduced cultivar was superior to the local one in most seed yield components.
