Title: Ecological Studies on Black Flies (Simulium damnosum) In Abu Hamad Locality

Abstract: Abu Hamad area is located out of the global belt of the abundance of black fly; never the less it is considered as an important host of the vector. The available information about the ecological factors that made Abu Hamad area a suitable environment for such an insect is not enough. Simulium damnosum is known to transmit Onchocerciasis in areas such as Southern Sudan, there fore it cause nuisance to the human being in Abu Hamad area. Despite this fact, no control measures have ever been applied in the area. The strategy followed by the National Onchocerciasis Protection Program is to provide the population in the area with Ivermectin (mectizan) as preventive drug. This present study was carried out in order to provide useful information about the ecology of the black fly in the study area.
