dc.description.abstract Health education is an important measure in the control of Shistosomiasis especially when considering the characteristics of the disease during childhood, such as the high prevalence, the high percentage of treatment resistance, and high rates of eggs elimination, and high level of re‐infection. All these facts indicated that children play a role in the maintenance and transmission of Shistosomiasis (Marieke, 2003). In October 2005 a survey of six states conducted by the Federal Ministry of Health of Sudan, showed that more than 70% of the population were exposed to Bilharzaisis and approximately 7.5 million of those were infected. Most of them were school children below 20 years. Stratified by regions, the incidence of Bilharziasis from either S.mansoni or S. haematobium ranged from 32.6% in Blue Nile region to 54.3% in Kassala region (Adam, Elwasila, and Homeda2005). The high prevalence of Shistosomiasis among the school children in the locality was 4.9%, according to the last survey 2006. Elaelafoon Unit is of high prevalence of Shistosomiasis 12% among basic schools’ pupils, compared to the other units in the locality (Locality Records, 2006). en_US
