Title: Comparison between Suxamethonium and Rocuronium In Rapid Sequence Intubation
Author: Salim, Rasha
Abstract: Prospective randomized double blind study was performed on hundred Sudanese patients presenting for elective surgical procedures under general aneasthesia. All patients were of ASA grade II and I within the age group 18 - 60 years. The intubation onset and condition for Suxamethonium and Rocuronium bromide was compared. Patients in the study were randomly allocated into two groups 50 patients in each one. The two groups received either Suxamethonium 1mg/kg or Recuronium 0.6mg/kg immediately after induction with pentothal 5mg/kg . Three fourth of the recuronium group were intubated within 60 sec (84 %) compared with 94 % in the Suxamethonium group . Good to excellent intubation conditions were achieved in 94 % in the two groups ,we conclude that in this study the intubating conditions approximately 60 sec after the administration of rocuronium were satisfactory and almost similar to those observed After Suxamethonium and the onset of action is comparable with that of Suxamethonium.
