Title: Control of Power Generation Steam

Abstract: In this study the steam of boiler in steam power plant consisting of four steam generators and four turbines was automatically controlled. The controlled variables were the water level in the boiler drum, the steam temperature (pressure) and the fuel-air ratio. These controlled variables were cascaded with the manipulative fuel flow rate and inlet water flow rate variables. The boiler drum level was paired with feedwater flow rate and the steam temperature was paired and cascaded with the fuel flow rate hoping that these pairings would give minimum interactions. Various types of controllers were tested; these were P, PI and PID. The control systems were tuned through Ziegler-Nichols and Routh Hurwitz techniques. The stability of the systems was investigated by Bode, Nyquist and Root locus stability criterions, and the most stable configuration was recommended.
