Title: Fingerprint Entering System

Abstract: Fingerprint has been used as a biometric feature for security reasons for centuries. A much broader application of fingerprints is for personal authentication, for instance to access a building, a computer, a network, a bank-machine, a car, or a home. It is preferred over traditional methods and other biometrics due to the relatively low cost; it is small size, universality, high performance and ease of integration of fingerprint authentication devices. In our project we developed a fingerprint based access control system that assures the security of a door of room or building by means of limiting the access to that room or building to specific people. This target can be mainly decomposed into Enrollment stage (scanning a sample fingerprint), image preprocessing, feature extraction and feature match. The fingerprint management system represented by a simple personal computer (PC) and the program is coded by MATLAB7. The characteristics of a fingerprint image extracted by Feature Extractor (soft ware), compared to characteristics of reference fingerprints in a database by a matcher (soft ware) to determine proper identification of a person for verification (Authentication stage). If this person is authorized the matcher send signal through the parallel port to open the door lock which we simulated it by a relay, if he is unauthorized the matcher will get an alarm warning us that an intruder trying to get in. The system performance is shown by experiments conducted upon a variety of fingerprint images. Also, the experiments illustrate the key issues of fingerprint recognition that are consistent with what the available literatures say.
