dc.description.abstract The past 1980’s witnessed two advances in technology. The first was the development of powerful microprocessors. The second invention was the high speed local area networks or LANs. These two developments permitted putting together computing systems composed of large numbers of CPUs connected by a high-speed network, thus allowing transfer of information between machines in milliseconds. Such system is called distributed system. This thesis introduces three mechanisms of communication in distributed systems. The client server model is designed to support the massage exchange. The remote procedure call allows client programs to call procedures in server programs running in separate processes and generally in a different computer from the client. The group communication can handle communication mechanisms in which a massage can be sent to multiple receivers in one operation. The work aim at designing two programs for communication using C-language under Linx: • Client Server model • Remote Procedure Call For group communication program java- language has been a adopted en_US
