Title: Design and Evaluation of Compact Arrays for Mimo Systems

Abstract: In recent years, the demand for compact hand held communication devices has grown significantly. Devices having internal antennas have appeared to fill this need .Antenna size is a major factor that limits device miniaturization. In the past few years ,new designs based on the micro strip antennas (MSA) and planar inverted_F antennas have been used for hand set mobile devices because these antennas have low-profile geometry and can be embedded into the devices. This project attempts to design antenna array for a multiple-input-multiple out put (MIMO)system. The array consists of four planar inverted-F antennas (PIFA) and the array is implemented on the lid of a mobile phone hand set, The array is simulated in tow scenarios ,the first one is an array of identical antennas and the second is array of orthogonal polarized antennas We have investigated the correlation properties for these tow scenarios. It is show that the array with polarized antennas has less correlation than that with identical antennas . Furthermore we explained how the antenna array is evaluated in terms of the capacity in (MIMO) system . The capacity is investigated for different values of signal_to_noise ratio (SNR) and for different numbers of transmit and receive antennas.
