Abstract
The objective of this thesis is to improve engines performance and to reduce fuel consumption by mixing fuel with HHO gas. A gaseous fuel containing high percentages of hydrogen and oxygen, is obtained directly from water by a special kind of electrolysis technology. This gaseous fuel is mixed with gasoline or diesel in the engine intake. This research presents the results obtained from the experiments concerning electrolyser production efficiency, performance of petrol engine when it is operated at different speeds, the effect of electrolyte‟s temperature on electrolyser operation, road tests of moving vehicle and some of emissions measurements. These tests emphasized the possibility of reducing fuel consumptions and pollutants from exhaust gases offered by the gaseous fuel; in comparison with the engine operated on gasoline fuel alone. Experiments confirmed the following: an improvement in engine performance, a reduction in fuel consumption, a reduction of HC emissions, no CO emissions are noticed and some increase of CO2 emissions.
