Abstract

This study investigates the personality of the poet Ibraheem Ibn Harma and presenting the artistic characteristics of his poetry. The first chapter deals with the age of the poet, and his environment in which he lived . The circumstances that had surrounded him has the greatest role in shaping his personality in the future, for he is a pretender of pretenders from an Arabic origin that has his own tongue and has exploited it for composing verses. The second chapter studies his poetry and its purpos , with concentration on the most distinct characteristics of these purposes. He wrote in all purposes that was prevailed in his age. The second theme discusses the meanings and contents shaping his poetry , for he was a traditional in most of his subjects. He made the commending a means of earning money, So he praised the statesmen of both states the Umawia and Abbasia, also he praised some abstract and concrete virtues and some religious values such as protecting the religion , defending it and establishing the Islamic state . The third chapter is devoted to the artistic aspects of Ibn –Harma’s poetry. The first theme deals with the building of his poem . Most of the poems written in the one – building shape. It consists of the introduction , delivering and the conclusion . The second theme represents observations on the music , meters and rhymes . Ibn –Harma’s composed poetry in some metres and left out the others .The third theme covers the artistic image . The poet used the artistic image to represent his meaning through the use of figure of speech , simile and metonymy . The fourth chapter discusses the building of style. It deals with the poet’s style and the language of his poetry . Ibn –Harma’s poetry distinguished by abundant utterances and sedate style , till he become a proof in language , at the same time he managed to illustrate his poetry
