Economic Potentialities of Industrial Minerals and Rocks in Qala En Nahal and Umm Sagata Areas Eastern State-Sudan

Abstract
Qala En Nahal and Umm Saqata areas constitute late Precambrian Alpine-type mafic-ultramafic rocks, as ophiolites masses. These ophiolite masses are deformed, sheared and dismembered. They are of serpentinized chromitiferous ultrabasic rocks, metagabbro and dykes of various compositions. In the area of study encouraged industrial minerals such as chromite, talc, asbestos and magnetite have been reported. The trace elements associated in economic values include Au, platinum group elements (PGE), Ni, Co and Ag. The samples taken are subjected to (XRF) and (AAS) analysis. The results of analysis are economical for Au, PGE, Ni, Co and Ag treated as a target of mineralization. Talc-carbonates facies with ore minerals of Ni-Co aresinides, pyrite, and chalcopyrite and silica-carbonate stock works are surface criteria for mineralization. The industrial mineral chromite occurs as abodiform type. The lenses are generally aligned in the direction of schistosity or general strike of the country rocks. About 22 chromite occurrences have been recorded mostly of massive ore. Representative samples from the study area give ore ratio of 20%-50%. The total reserve of chromite is estimated to be more than 600,000 tons. Talc in the area is classified as pure talc with small impurities and occur as a large deposit with total reserve of about 60 million metric tons. Chrysotile asbestos , recorded in three localities in the study area, occur in the serpentinite with relatively long fibers. The total reserve is about 1080 million tons. The area proved to be of interest for further geological investigation..Chromite and talc are now being mined.
