Abstract
The present study deals with the short term tactual memory of blind people within an attempt to answer the following question: Is it possible to assess the short term memory of the blind people by using the sense of tactual? And can the shape strategy be a suitable tool for performing this? Importance of the study can be seen in providing a data base in the field of psychological measurements, in addition to the possibility of benefiting from the measurement as a legitimate tool on the Sudanese environment in the field of blind people. The objectives of the study can also be summarized in knowing the range of variation between male and female blind in terms of their memorial capability, and realizing the effect of some variables such as age, academic level and profession upon the blind’s intellectual abilities such as tactual memory. After displaying the study terminologies, the theoretical frame of the study has been dealt with in the second chapter. The study also covered several variations the most important of which are: 1/ There are statistically significant variations between blind men and women in the short term tactual memory 2/ There are statistically significant variations in the short term tactual memory according to different age groups. Sample of the study included 400 male and female blind, who almost represent all categories of population who live in Khartoum, and come from all states of the Sudan. The measurement of short term tactual memory has been used as a tool for the study. The study has come out with the following results: 7 1/ There are statistically significant variations between blind men and women in the short term tactual memory in favor of the male blind 2/ There are statistically significant variations in the short term tactual memory according to different age groups. 3/ There are statistically significant variations between blind men and women in the short term tactual memory according to the different academic levels. 4/ There are no statistically significant variations in the short term tactual memory according to different occupations of the blind. 5/ There are statistically significant variations in the short term tactual memory according to different homeland of the blind in Sudan. 6/ There are statistically significant variations in the short term tactual memory according to different age when the blind was infected. 7/ There is no statistically significant variations in the short term tactual memory of the blind according to variation of disability causes. These results have got particular importance in the designing of special curriculum for the blind, and in designing the teaching methodology.
