Abstract

Sudanese press has, since its commencement and through the stages of development till today, provided modest forms and contributions in dealing with economic issues. But these has been almost weak to a large extent, with economic issues when compared to the attention given to national, political and social issues. Sudan is still suffering from evident shortage in the appearance of specialized publications to cope with the progress of economic development. The economic circumstances in Sudan have witnessed a rapid growth in all sectors especially in the private sector in its all aspects; and this makes more visible the need for specialized newspapers, magazines and supplements addressing economic affairs and issues, which lead to a further development and growth of the public and private sectors. This research adopts three approaches in evaluating the research subject: historical, descriptive and comparative methods. These approaches implemented as tools literature, interviews with a number of journalist in addition to questionnaires designed for the purposes of the field study. The questionnaires and interviews forms have been refereed by communication and economics university academicians. As for the research community, AlAyam and Al Sahafa newspapers are selected for the purpose. The time frame extends between 2007- 2009. The study is divided into four chapters; the first chapter is dealing with the ,"Methodological Framework" in which the basics of the study are reviewed. Chapter II reviews as the "theoretical framework" the ي emergence of the Sudanese press and stages of development. Chapter III deals with, the "Applied Framework” which covers the field study. Chapter IV presents a summary of the study, the findings and recommendations. Most important of the research findings is the limited interest and attention given by the Sudanese Press to economic affairs. Politics dominated over of the editorial space at the expense of economics. The research recommendations focus on the importance of increasing the area of the economic oriented editorials in the Sudanese press, the allocation of pages for economics, establishing exclusive economic journalism and training staff to specialize in economic affairs.
