Network Monitoring

Abstract

Due to the fact that the need for local area networks is growing rapidly, it is important to improve the efficiency of such networks. This can be achieved by monitoring the operation of these networks. This project is considered to do such thing. In this project an Ethernet LAN is being monitored. Real time data are collected using application software that works in one of the network nods. This node receives all the packets that are sent over the network and analyzes them in order to satisfy the needs of the network administrator. The application was applied to monitor the Internet service offered by the network through a gateway (proxy server), its goal is to calculate the Internet login period for each host or group of hosts and store this information to be used by the service manager
