Analysis of some Sudanese Minerals Using X-Ray Fluorescence

In the present work an attempt has been made to measure the elemental content of, some local minerals using the newly acquired technique of X-ray fluorescence (XRF). The XRF was first used to measure Fe and Cr content of various chromates sample obtained from the Angasana area of Sudan. The samples were also measured by wet chemical method as well as by neutron activation analysis, using a Pu - Be neutron source, for comparison. To check on the accuracy of the method a British Standard was also measured for the two elements. The XRF technique was also used to measure Mn content of minerals obtained from Damazine area of Sudan. The results were also compared with those obtained using neutron activation analysis. A discussion of the results and interpretation of discrepancies observed is finally given.
