Abstract
This research talks about fair poems. It is divided into three
chapters, each chapter includes a number of themes. Chapter one has the
title “fair play” and includes three themes; the first of which talks about
the meaning fair play in the Arabic language lexicon: the second theme
talks about ‘fair play’ in Arabic poetry and its relation with wars and the
Arab times; besides self frankness in description and explanation. As for
the third theme, it talks about five aspects of ‘fair play’ in Arabic poetry;
fair play in the case of triumph, fair play in the case of defeat, fair play in
the case of equality, compared with these aspects linked with war, other
two aspects not associated with war are : fair play in the case of affection
and sincerity and fair play in the case of covetousness and hatred.
The second chapter is concerned with fair poems and includes two
themes. The first abroach the number of a poets of fair poems, while the
second identifies the position of fair play in fair poems.
The third chapter which is about a study of fair poems is
composed of four themes; the first of which illustrates what a fair poem is
composed of e.g erotic poetry; the second refers to arms; the third is
about some customs associated with war in fair poems such as sending
vanguard or sommoning the tribes name. The third theme is confined to
metaphor in fair poems and in simile, metaphor, and metonymy. All this
is associated with the meaning of fair play depending on the opinions of
scholars and the collection of poetic quotations.
