Abstract
Hospital based study was conducted at Port Sudan
Teaching Hospital, Port Sudan town, Red Sea State.
The objective was to study the risk factors contributing to
tuberculosis and to identify the demographic, environmental and
socioeconomic risk factors involved among the tuberculosis
inpatients admitted to Port Sudan Teaching Hospital during
15/11-15/12/2006.The sample size was (132) patients.
Age group (21 – 40 years) (37.1%) was the most infected
age group. The infection of tuberculosis occurred among males
(62.9%) more than females. Also, it occurred among patients
with overcrowding (75%), poorest (78%) and illiterates (56%).It
was also occurred among the patient live in urban area (61.4%)
more than rural area.
On the light of the findings preventive measures were
recommended to control tuberculosis among the population in
the study area.
