Abstract
The main aim of this research is to analyze the mechanical induced draft counter flow ceramic cooling towers, from the view of its design and performance. Therefore an induced draft cooling tower had been designed, packed with ceramic bricks as the fill materials. The tests had been run in the North Building of Mechanical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, University of Khartoum, in the tests inlet water temperature, water flow rate and the height of the packing were verified several times with the variation in weather conditions. The assembled ceramic cooling tower showed a good performance. The average range of number of transfer units had been found experimentally, which is closer to that found in the literature. Also the average range of the mass transfer coefficient had been determined experimentally. This coefficient is the vital factor for the designer to estimate the height of the ceramic fill
