Abstract
This study deals with the explanation and analysis of socio
economic impact of agricultural schemes in the Sudan: the Case of
Kaboushiya agricultural scheme. This study was conducted mainly to
identify the socio-economic and impact of agricultural scheme and the
problems facing them, in order to incorporate environmental
considerations into economic development. Also it highlights the main
feature of rural economy. The main hypothesis of this study is that the
scheme failed to maintain it’s objectives as it lacks the main components
of sustainable development, together with ignoring public participation in
planning. This failure has led to socio-economic and ecological
degradation. Data for the purpose of study is collected from primary and
secondary sources such as published data departmental reports and
theses; special attention was given to individual and group interviews.
The questionnaire was randomly distributed. Observation, for
geographical phenomenon, and other variables related to the study are
among the main techniques.
The study findings are that; the physical characteristics are suitable
for growing crop. On the other hand, lack proper planning was the main
negative aspect. Not only that but ignoring the environmental dimension
was again a demerit of planning process. As a result farmers left their
area in search of better living conditions. Equally the villages within the
scheme area are till suffering much from bad health conditions. The study
ends with some recommendations such as provision of infrastructure eg.
Services, health, education … etc. finance for providing agricultural
inputs and new extensions. In addition, more attention should be given to
public participation.
