Abstract
This study investigates the contribution of taxation to socio-economic development in the White Nile State. It analyses the allocation of revenues among the different sectors during the period (1994-2004). The study explains the impact of government expenditure on provision of social services. The methodology used is analytical and descriptive. The research showed that, the amount devoted to social services is very low due to: the increase in current expenditure, a costly civil service, inadequate development planning and the poor performance of local taxes. Finally the research recommends tax reforms and rationalization of public expenditure
