Aerobic Bacteria Associated With Market Fishes

The present work was carried out to determine the aerobic bacteria present in different fish samples. The samples collected randomly from El Mawrda fish market (Omdurman) and Khalifa local market at El Thawra (Omdurman). A total of 150 samples comprised of 20 bile fluid, 22 intestines, 22 livers, 22 gills, 22 egg sacs, 20 fresh meat and 22 Putrified meat were cultured for isolation of aerobic bacteria. Fish used as samples for bacterial isolation were Lates, Oreochromis, Sarothredon, Tilapia, Syndontic, Labeo, Morymrus, Hypropisisus, Clarias, Gymarchus and Bagrus spp. Both Gram-Positive bacteria (113 isolates) and Gram-negative bacteria (322 isolates) were isolated from different fish samples. The isolated Gram-Positive organisms were Staphylococcus, Coryne-bacterium, Bacilli and Micrococcus. The isolated Gram-negative organisms were Proteus, Citrobactor, Pasteurella, Branhamella, Providencia, Edwardsiella tarda, Serratia, Shigella, Moraxella, Klebsiella, Actinobacillus, Talumella, Pseudomonas, E. coli, Vibrio and Bordetella bronchiseptica. Different antibiotics were used for bacterial sensitivity tests, gentamycin found to be more potent.
