Abstract
Madurella mycetomatisis the commonest cause of eumycetoma
infection in Sudan. The high rate of recurrence after treatment and surgery (20-90%) is the problem of managing patients with the disease. Ketoconazole is the
first oral azole to be used as antimycotic. In spite of its erratic absorption and the
risk of hepatotoxicity, it will continueto be used as a major antifungal.
Itraconazole is a new triazole antifungal agent. It has a great safety and unique
pharmacokinetic profile and not studied before for the treatment of mycetoma.
