Abstract
This research handles the topic of training in the University of Khartoum. It aims at projecting its importance; in an endeavour to show its impact on the improvement of performance, the obstacles which confront it and the proposals of the solutions and treatments for raising capacities and promotion of the level of performance of employees. The hypotheses of the study were represented by the non-existence of organizational structure which are devoted to the appropriate scientific basis, the non-existence of studied plans which respond to the actual needs for training and the absence of clear policies about the training administration. The study adopted the descriptive-analytic approach using the field survey (the questionnaire) and the personal interview technique (with some responsible elements) as primary sources of data. The secondary data were colleted from the official data records, and also from the field records. The study contained three chapters. Chapter One dealt with the training methods. Chapter Two handled the definition of the University of Khartoum, it establishment, the system of administration and the present techniques of training in it. Chapter Three contained a review and analysis and results of the field survey. The research reached several findings, the most important of which are that there are no job specifications which are devoted to the appropriate scientific basis, likewise, there is a need for a manpower planning section which cares for the work objectives and measurements in the administrative and academic units. By the same token, there is no comprehensive method or plan for training which encompass all the segments and functional diversity, in the university. The research presented a number of recommendations, the most important of which are: there is a need for the provision of a data base, that include the basic data about all the employees. Support of the training section with qualified and well trained cadres and the development of training; so that capacity building becomes a wide framework to include the individual.
