Effect of Chicken Manure and the Complete Fertilizer (Npk) Foliar and Granules on Growth and Yield of Squash (Cucurbita Pepo L.)

Abstract
A field experiment was conducted during March – June 2002 in the Demonstration Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture at Shambat, University of Khartoum, to investigate the effects of chicken manure, complete fertilizer NPK (in two forms, soil applied and foliar ) on growth and yield of squash (cucurbita pepo L.). Three different fertilizers were used in this study namely: chicken manure, Nafcal (soil NPK granules) and Waxual (foliar NPK). Characters studied include: growth parameters and yield components. The results showed that, all fertilizer treatments had significant effect on all growth parameters. Chicken manure and soil NPK treatments significantly resulted in substantial increase in all growth parameters compared to foliar NPK and control treatments. Squash yield components were also significantly affected by the fertilizer treatments. Chicken manure and soil NPK significantly delayed fruit setting and increased number of fruits per unit area, fruit weight and length compared to the other two treatments.
