Abstract
This study was carried out during June 2009 at Gezira scheme – Elmokashfi division. The objective of the study is to evaluate field performance of some implements manufactured by Giad company, namely ridger and pneumatic planter, and to compare their performance with that of some imported implements, namely Nardi ridger, Turkish ridger, Rome planter and Atspar planter. The parameters measured were theoretical and effective field capacity, field efficiency and fuel consumption. The result showed that the Giad ridger recorded the highest values the theoretical and effective field capacity (6.14 and 5.70 fed/hr respectively) compared to the Nardi ridger which recorded a theoretical field capacity of 3.75 fed/hr and effective field capacity of 1.95 fed/hr. The Giad ridger recorded the highest field efficiency (92%) compared to the Nardi (52%) and Turkish ridger (72.90%). The Giad ridger recorded highest value of fuel consumption rate (7.95 l/hr) compared to the Turkish ridger (3.27 l/hr) and lower than Nardi (13.30 l/hr). Results also showed that Gaid pneumatic planter recorded the highest values of the theoretical and effective field capacity (6.12 and 5.40 fed/hr respectively) compared to the Brazilian (ROME) planter which recorded a theoretical field capacity of 4.33 fed/hr and effective field capacity of 3.6 fed/hr ATSPAR recorded theoretical field capacity of 4.33 fed/hr and effective field capacity of 3.26 fed/hr. the pneumatic planter recorded the highest field efficiency (88%) compared to ROME (80%) and ATSPAR (75%).
