Application Of Some Schiff’s Bases Containing Moiety Of Thiazole For Determination Of Some Trace Metal Ions

Three Schiff’s bases containing thiazole moiety were synthesized, i.e N(salicylidene-4-phenyl-2-aminothiazole (SPAT), 2-hydroxy-acetophenone-4-phenyl-2-aminothiazole (APAT), and benzoin-4-phenyl-2-aminothiazole (BPAT) by the condensation of 4-phenyl-2-aminothiazole with salicyladehyde ,2-hydroxy-acetophenone ,and benzoin, respectively, in alcohol. 4-phenyl-2-aminothiazole itself was prepared by adding thiourea, acetophenone and iodine These Schiff’s bases were identified using nitrogen content, melting point and their applications as analytical reagent were investigated using UV/VI spectrophotometer. The following metal ions, Co (II) , Zn (II) , Ni(II), Cu (II) Cr(VI), Fe(III), Pb(II), V(V), Mo(VI), and Cd (II), were scanned with these reagents ,Table 2,16, and 31. SPAT gave a relatively better absorbance with Cu(II), Ni(II), Zn(II), and Co(II) , Table 2, while APAT was found to give a relatively better absorbance with Cr(VI), Fe(III), Cu(II), and Ni(II), Table 16, and BPAT gave a relatively better absorbance with Cu(II), Cr(VI), Fe(III), and Ni(II), Table 31. The optimum conditions of the practical analytical application of the each Schiff’s base with these metal ions which showed reasonably better absorbance were studied, Tables, 3,17,32. Table 3, shows that the complexes of Co(II), Zn(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) with SPAT gave a higher absorbance in sodium dodecyl sulphate. While in the acidic or basic medium the absorbance of Zn(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Co(II) are either unaffected or lowered. Tables 17,32 shows that the complexes of Cr(VI), Cu(II), Ni(II), Fe(III) with APAT and BPAT gave a higher absorbance in basic medium, while in the acidic medium the absorbance of Cr(VI), Cu(II), Ni(II), Fe(III) are either unaffected or lowered
