Abstract
The advent of Globalization as concept coincides with huge technological
development to different fields of knowledge in general and to the field of
Information and Technology in particular. The result of the combination
of the two concepts has led to the so called the Tele Matics of
Information revolution. Again, the intermingling of the above mentioned
has also given rise to new inventions namely: personalcomputer (CP),
CD/ROM and a variety of networks, Tele conferncing, on the line
transmission and other devices and electroics that have changed the life
on the earth.
Despite the points mentioned above, education system is still having the
traditional image, thus facing a lot of problem which made it unable to
play its role satisfactorily, then the distance Education ensues as a
concept parallet to the traditional Education. It offers a chance to
thosewho have been prevented from having formal different reason, to
benefit from the chance of self-continuing distance education. Distance
Education itself tend to use the same traditional ways and means of
learning, thus, using E-mail, home learning etc. By the venture of the
latest technologies developed the channals of Distance learning gets
extended to include the A. V the Audio Visual devces, T.V and
broadcasting services in addition to on time through the satellite together
with Information networks, Video Conferencing, e-mail. These
electronics as a whole make possible the remote coverage of events. By
passing the geographicalobstacle and time limitations and it make it
possible to have global classrooms to accommodate to have and then
instructors our root.
The above mentioned variation in the information development have
changed the role of the instructor from being the source of information
who is planning the Educational processes to guide to direct thestudents
towards using the new technological aspect, and receiving them from
various. Stillthe academic counselor has a vital role to play in the (D.Ls)
Distance Learning system, since he is present with the students in the
learning Institution. He can arrange and administer Seminarrs during
which he can also help the student in understanding and acquiring much
Information and by so doing he gets a feedback.
D.L in the sudan follows the conventional system since the universities
offering such education are originally traditional institutions embodied
units of D.L.
It is only the Sudan Open Learning University that has especially been
established to offer D.L. Furthermore most of the universities are
focusing on student abroad and there is no use of application of
Information technology in programmes. This is not due to finacial
constraint, but is due to the fear the technology itself. The biggest
problem of Text books. The available Text books perfect needs more
scrutiny in order to be satisfactory. The Ministry of Higher Education did
not impose restriction from the start to control those interventions, whch
deal with D.L..
In conclusion, we could say that if the tecnology is rationally used in the
Sudanese learning istitution, this will be a large qualitative transfer in
terms of perfection. We feel that D.L. should be based on the society
genuine requirement and should also contribute to the natioal
development planning.
