Abstract
This is a discriptive retrospective study to determine the number of cases of
brucellosis among human population during the years 1995 to 2003 and the
number of cases of brucellosis among cattle, goat, sheep and camel during the
years 1997 to 2003 in Sudan and the Sultanate of Oman. The study aims at
comparing the occurrence of brucellosis in both countries.
This study is composed of an introduction about brucellosis, a literature review
on its epidemiology, statistical data were collected and analysed; the results
showed that the occurrance of human brucellosis was higher in the Sultanate of
Oman than in Sudan. The occurrance of bovine brucellosis was 7% in Sudan and
6% in the Sultanate of Oman, caprine brucellosis was 5% in the Sultanate of
Oman and it was insignificant in Sudan. While the occurrance of ovine
brucellosis was insignifficant in both Sudan and the Sultanate of Oman, the
occurrence of camel brucelosis was 4% in Sudan and 1% in the Sultanate of
Oman. Emphasis was made on interpreting and comparing the results between the
two countries.
It is concluded that in Sudan there were implemented control programs against
brucellosis and there is excellent work done in the production of brucella vaccines
and antigens, in the Sultanate of Oman. There were limitted control programs
against brucellosis and it had been monitored as a human health hazzard and in
both countries brucellosis was not dealt with as enough as its importance.
Finally there were suggested recommendations regarding more focus in dealing
with brucellosis as zoonosis and some proceedures that could help in its control in
both countries. In Sudan it was recommended to give more attention to diagnosis
of human brucellosis and in the Sultanate of Oman it is recommended to
strengthen the reseach and studies on brucellosis.
