Abstract
Effect of Tractor Forward Speed and Soil Type on Tillage Implements Performance at the South Kordofan State, Sudan (M.Sc. Agric. Engineering Thesis) Ahmed Ibrahim Ahmed Mohamed Yasein Abstract: This study was conducted at Um shara area, north west Lagawa town in the western sector of South Kordofan State during 2010.The experiment was carried out in two soil types (clay soil and sandy clay ), known as "Gardud" soil lands. Three types of tillage implements (X1 chisel plow, X2 disc plow and X3 wide level disc) were used to investigate the effect of three tractor forward speeds (Y1 7.5 km/h, Y2 8.2 km/h and Y3 9.3 km/h) and the effect of the two types of soils on their performance. Data were collected on fuel consumption rate, effective field capacity, field efficiency and tractor wheel slippage. The results showed significant (PX05; 0.05) differences between treatments in slippage value for the two soils, with the three implements. The lowest slippage was recorded for the combined effect of gardud and 9.3km/h speed, giving slippage of 5% with wide level disc. The highest slippage value of 20.7% was obtained when using chisel plow at to speed of 8.2km/h. Generally, high speed resulted in reduction of fuel consumption with all implements. Gardud soil recorded the lowest fuel consumption for all implements at the three forward speeds. The effective field capacity and field efficiency increased with increased forward speed. With high speeds field efficiency, particularly with wide level disc, gave higher values of 10.4% on gardud soil and 4.4% on clay soil. The effect of treatments on effective field capacity was insignificant for the three implements. English Abstract
