Abstract
Three Schiff's bases having thiazole moiety were synthesized, N-(vanillin)-2-amino-4-phenylthiazole (NVAPT), N-(anisaldehyde)- 2-amino-4-phenylthia-zole (NAAPT), and N-(2-methoxybenzal-dehyde)2-amino-4-phenyl-thiazole (NMAPT), by the condensation reaction of 2-amino-4-phenylthiazole with vanillin, anisaldehyde, and methoxybenzaldehyde, respectively. These Schiff's bases were identified using i.r spectrophotometry, nitrogen content, and melting point. Applications of these Schiff's bases as analytical reagents were investigated using UV/VIS spectrophotometry to study the optimum condition for determination of the following metal ions, Cr(VI), Fe (III), Fe (II), Ni (II), Co (II), Cu (II), Zn (II), and V (V). The interference from some other metal ions was investigated.
