Abstract
The research aims to discuss information society and its different pillars, particularly the economic and technological ones in addition to the indicators that are used in measuring the information society. Sudan is taken as a case study. The researcher has for mutated three hypotheses regarding business: Business institution in Sudan keeping up with information and communication technology, Sudanese families lacking information and communication technology, and entering of Sudan entirely with the information communication. To test the above mentioned hypotheses, the researcher to test the indictor that were used in measuring the information society. With regard to the research method, the researcher used the descriptive method to describe the information sector in Sudan. Data collection tools included interviews and direct observation will be made. The researcher based his questions on the international partnership indexes that are used in measuring the development. The first index consisted of 12 definitions while the second index consisted of 10 questions that were distributed to 310 Sudanese nationals, in Khartoum state. The third index consisted of 11questions that were posed for some business institutions that were selected randomly. The most important findings of the research are that: There are positive indicators proving that Sudan has benefited from entering the information society (for instance, 97.7% of Sudanese families have mobile phones). But there are also negative indicators (e.g. 45% of business or entreprenuird institutions did not have websites). Despite the significant steps that have ز been taken by Sudan to enter information society, still there is a big gap between Sudan and complete local and international integration in this regard. The research recommended that the advanced countries measures should be used for measuring information societies in the developing countries. Also the Sudanese universities curriculums should include information society studies at their different faculties and departments. Last public libraries with digital services should be supported.
