Abstract

Globalization necessitates major adjustment in every country and Sudan is not an exception. Imperative conformity, participation and even membership became inescapable avenues and venues of accommodation in the new world. The World Trade Organization (WTO) membership requires a process of tedious, cumbersome and application satisfactory conditions to be fulfilled. This constitutes part of the research problem. Needless to say, Sudan strived to join WTO and gain membership and substantial efforts were made. This research analyzed the world trade set-up and its historical development and identified WTO agreements related to the agricultural sector. This sector is especially focused to express the importance of Sugar commodity in international trade under assumption that Sudan is comparatively in an advantageous position in sugar production. Research pointed out the implications and expected outcomes if Sudan is a full member in WTO. Investigations of this implication emphasize the results in the sugar sub-sector. The essential research question is how to maximize benefits and minimize repercussions of WTO membership, commitment and involvement. The underlying assumptions in this document are the penetration ability of Sudan in sugar trade market, the favorable outcomes of WTO membership. Primary and secondary are data utilized and analyzed to obtain statistically reliable results. The statement in the research hypothesis hold true and the expected out comes are correct. Thus, research legitimately claims that Sudan is in a good position to compete and penetrate the sugar commodity international market. Recommendation include the importance of formulation a national plan for sugar, establishment of an integrated sugar industry, legal reform of the sugar sector along with legislation advocating the development of the sector and protecting its interest and achievement.
