Abstract
Urban land use necessitates defining specific areas earmarked to
serve the needs of the urban centre.
That includes housing, agricultural, public utilities areas, together
with land reserve for future use. But under certain circumstances, it
becomes difficult to abide by a particular land use project. It is frequently
observed that housing areas encroaches over agricultural areas. The later
is to help to provide food to the urban centre. This type of encroachment
is owed to the accelerating rural/urban exodus. The later has led to a
serious urban phenomenon i.e. squatter settlements which have grown at
the expense of agricultural areas. Urban land administration policy is
largely responsibility for that.
The investigator formulized six hypotheses and stated clearly the
research methodology and sources of information. The information
correlated was fed to a computer for analysis.
Reasonable results have been concluded for example the urban
agricultural land is continuously shrinking while the housing areas are
extending with this trend, one day may come when no urban agricultural
land will be available.
The thesis suggests some recommendations which include the
commitments of urban land authorities to the execution of the approved
master plans, balanced development country-wise to curb rural/urban
exodus, and other recommendation.
