Abstract
The aim of this research is to cover the political developments of the Sudanese political movement from 1952 to 1958. The research points out the factors for the failure of these political movement to solve the country's pressing problems that was needed for the future stability of the Sudan after independent. Based on primary and secondary sources the researcher used a historical analytical approach. The most important result of this research was the complete failure of the first democracy to tackle any of the Sudan problems, namely the achievement of a federal system for the South, a promise given before independence but dishonored, a permanent constitution suitable for a country with variety cultures and identities, socio – economic even development. The main reason for this failure was the miss –apprehension of the concept of the liberal democracy that was stated in the provisional constitution. The political parties were fettered by sectarianism and the attempts by some modern forces to escape sectarian influence were doomed to failure. Evidence was the coalition between the Peoples' Democratic Party and the Umma Party against the United National Party. This fragile coalition differed in every issue and the result was the first military coup of 17 November 1958
