Abstract
Abstract Hematite and Zinc-Ferrite have been prepared by reflux method and double sintering ceramic method, respectively. X-ray powder diffraction combined with standard Rietveld refinement technique was used to evaluate the phase purity as well as to obtain the lattice parameter, space group, atomic position and possible cation distribution amongst tetrahedral (A) and octahedral (B) sites of each sample. The results showed that the Hematite has a corundum structure (i.e. a hexagonally close-packed (hcp) structure of O2- ions) belonging to the space group which is indexed as R-3c (167). Moreover, the Zinc-Ferrite sample was found to be single phase spinel with cubic crystal structure belonging to the space group Fd-3m (227). The observed XRD peaks in these results matched well with the standard reflections for the corresponding structures reported in the literature and in the MATCH software data base.
